(More customer reviews)This REPLICA KATE MIDDLETON SAPPHIIRE ENGAGEMENT RING, (here, SIZE 7.5), shows that the manufacturer, GEMONDO, tried hard to duplicate the original -- although not quite succeeding. Whether this is due to the expense involved, or to any official restrictions on not producing an EXACT copy of the ring, I don't know. (I have yet to find one anywhere on the net -- even finding, at $30,000 (!) a ring that does not look as much like the original as this one does!)
Havng never seen Kate Middleton, (or the Duchess of Cambridge, as she is now known), personally, I cannot vouch for the exact size of her fingers. All I do know is that the original ring fits her finger very well -- but that the other replica ring I have bought, has a far bigger centre stone, and seems like a "grand-ma" ring on my admittedly small hands. (Yes-- I admit to buying two rings, but I bought the other one BEFORE discovering this one, and might not have bought it at
all, had I discovered this ring first!)
The shank of the ring is nice and thin -- JUST like the original, and much thinner, even considering their sizes, than that of my other ring.
THIS ring, however, when on, makes my finger look more like Kate Middleton's finger, with the ring(s) on. NO overhang on the sides. This smaller center stone is good for a smaller hand, like mine. Whether this replica ring, (or the other), is closer in size to the original ring, I don't know.
Looking closely at the original, I notice, however, that the encircling white stones, (in the replica ring here being reviewed) are very, very slightly too large to truly replicate the original. The difference is SO slight as to almost be un-noticalbe, (except to a person who so DEARLY wants an EXACT replica, as I am), but the difference is there. Perhaps, in so relatively small a ring, setting smaller encircling stones would have been more expensive, so the manufacturer decided to go with the larger, easier to set ones, and pass some of his saving's along to the customer.
But the fourteen progngs, holding the centre stone, are happily here -- just as they are in the original. (SOME "replica" rings only have the four prongs usually seen in other rings -- not true replicas, these other rings, at all!) The prongs go up, right near the surface of the centre stone -- far nearer than my other ring, which also has the "14 points"(!) But, unlike the original, these fourteen prongs do NOT go up and ONTO the surface of the centre stone -- no, they are just NEAR the center of the stone. (This arrangement would be totally OK with me -- except that, as I said, I am looking for an EXACT replica. And in the original, the prongs go up, and up, and INTO the fane of the stone, unlike here.) The original, as well, has a far HIGHER center stone, but this does not appear to be in ANY replica -- at least those I have seen. However, just as in the original, the very bottom of this ring is "built up", on a "platform, and, if you look at it from the side, the prongs and center stone form the illusion of a coronet!
Also, the OUTER prongs of the OUTER, (white), stones also aren't quite as small as they should be, (yet are much smaller than other rings have). This leads to a ring with fourteen, (very) slight points -- unlike the more rounded circumference of the original. Soemthing like a star, with fourteen barely noticable points.....
The colour of the Duchess of Cambridge's ring is, (from all the pictures I have seen), a deep, deep royal blue. This ring has a somewhat lighter, (but still VERY beautiful), stone. Perhaps this is the REAL colour of a sapphire, (I haven't seen many of them myself -- actually, none), and that the camera has darkened the colour. Or perhaps the manufacturer wanted to give this ring an extra sparkle, with a lighter-coloured stone. The difference in colour IS noticable, but does not at all detract from the ring's beauty.
NONE of the replica rings I have seen have the "cushion-shaped", (rounded-corner rectangle), stone of the original. Most substitute an oval stone, more available, thus less expensive. One ring I've seen uses a rectangluar stone, and another, an avocado-shaped stone, to TRY to replicate the "cushion" shape. This ring also substitutes an oval stone. But since the stone is relatively smaller than many oter rings, the shape is not as distinct as it would be in a larger stone, and so it's easier to imagine the left and right sides of the center stone being straighter, less rounded....just as in the original!
All in all, this is not a bad little ring at all. And "little" is an important word here...it's good for smaller hands, not over-whelming the finger, as a larger ring might do. This ring is awesomely gorgeous, and -- especially from further away -- does look a lot like the original to me.
Not an EXACT duplica, (which replica ring is? Please tell me!) -- but a very carefully crafted one, and obviously as close to the original as the manufacturer could make!
